Gunmen push driver out of car, hijack taxi

Two gunmen on Sunday afternoon pushed a taxi driver out of his car and escaped with the vehicle after posing as passengers.
Reports are that at about 13:15h on Sunday, a 28-year-old taxi driver who works at the University of Guyana Road was hired by one of the suspects who requested to be taken to Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Police said that when they reached the destination, the other suspect approached the car, pulled out a handgun from his pants waist and pointed it at the driver while demanding that he exit the motor car. However, the driver refused and the suspect, who was in the passenger seat, pushed the victim out of the silver Allion motor car, PPP 4947. This allowed his accomplice to enter the driver’s seat and they escaped in a southern direction on Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, and west onto Aubrey Barker Road.
The taxi driver told Police that he had 423,000 along with a Samsung J Pro 2 cellular phone valued $30,000 in the vehicle.
An investigation has been launched.
