Representatives from the US Embassy, Mark Cullinane, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Violeta Talandis, Public Affairs Officer, on Monday met cricketers of the Guyana Floodlights Under-15 team before they departed.
The players were given tokens. Also present were executives of Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA).
The Under-15 team for the first time will participate at the annual Cricket Council United States of America Open Youth Tournament to be held from December 20 to December 23, 2019 at the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida. Since its inception, this tournament has grown from strength to strength, and now is in its 11th year for senior teams and its third year for youths.
The GFSCA Under-15 youths will be led by Transport Sports Club and promising national youth player Alvin Mohabir. The team also consists of West Indies Under-15 batting star Mavendra Dindial; national youth all-rounder Zachary Jodha (vice captain); Jonathan VanLange and Demerara Under-15 opener Romeo Deonarain. The management of the team is boosted by former West Indies Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan as Manager and former national player, youth coach and senior selector Hubern Evans acting as the coach.
The full team reads: Alvin Mohabir, Nicholas Shiopersad, Gabriel Rookhum, Arun Gainda, Zachary Jodha, Romeo Deonarain, Nityanand Mathura, John Persaud, Mavendra Dindial, Jonathan VanLange, Dave Mohabir, Ravindra Singh, Stephon Sankar and Premkumar Permaul. Ricky Deonarain is the Assistant Manager; Davanand Mohabir, physio and Lalta Gainda, Technical Analyst.
