Guyana left searching for 1st win after Jamaica rout

Guyana’s Under-19s suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 50-Over Championship after Jamaica completed a commanding 10-wicket victory at the Bethesda Sports Ground on Monday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Guyana made a promising start with an opening partnership of 73 runs. Khush Seegobin led the early charge before falling for an entertaining 38 off 29 deliveries, striking seven boundaries.

Parmeshwar Ram top-scored for Guyana

Captain Parmeshwar Ram then anchored the innings with a composed 78 from 93 balls, an innings that featured five fours and three sixes. He received valuable support from Shamar Apple, who compiled a patient 50 from 72 balls as the pair kept Guyana in a strong position.
At 204 for 4, Guyana appeared set for a total well in excess of 250. However, the innings unravelled dramatically as Jamaica’s bowlers triggered a spectacular collapse. Guyana lost their remaining six wickets for just 21 runs to be dismissed for 225 in 44.4 overs.
Jahdae Moore was the chief destroyer for Jamaica, claiming an excellent 5-36, while Perico Henry chipped in with two wickets.

Centurion Odane Binns

Any hopes Guyana had of defending the modest total were quickly extinguished as Jamaica’s openers produced a flawless batting display.
Odane Binns struck a magnificent unbeaten 104 from 109 balls, peppering the boundary with nine fours and five sixes. Tyson Gordon Jr provided the ideal support, finishing unbeaten on 83 from 115 deliveries, including 10 fours.
The pair shared an unbroken opening partnership of 229 as Jamaica raced to victory in just 37 overs without losing a wicket, handing Guyana a comprehensive 10-wicket defeat.
Guyana will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s clash against Barbados, where they will be searching for their first victory of the tournament after back-to-back losses.
