This is the first time ever that Guyana would be making an appearance at a world level tournament. This World Cup is the largest ever, with 42 men’s teams and 33 women’s teams in divisions running in 5-year groups from Over-35 right through to Over-60. The tournament takes place at the David Ross Sports Village on the University of Nottingham Campus.

The Guyana men will find themselves in the prestigious company of teams from host country England, Australia, France, Germany, Bangladesh, Canada and Wales. There will be two pools of 4 teams each, and Guyana have been included in Pool B, with England, Canada and Wales.
The schedule sees the Guyana team facing Canada in their opening match on Thursday 28th March at 06:00hrs Guyana Time. The lone South American side then takes on England the following morning, and completes the pool in a round against Wales on Saturday, March 30th.
Guyana have selected a solid contingent, with their 12-man team featuring no less than four former national captains in Ian Nicholson, Alan Fernandes, Philip Fernandes and Devin Munroe. Nicholson, the oldest of the group, had assumed the captaincy of Guyana back in the late eighties, and had held that position for several years before migrating to the USA.
While there are three other overseas-based players selected in Marc King (Canada), Captain Jerazeno Bell (Jamaica) and goalkeeper Gregory Garraway (Trinidad), the rest of the team are all based in the homeland of Guyana.
Locally-based players in goalkeeper Azad DeAbreu, Devin Hooper, Chris Low-Koan, Ivor Thompson, Devin Munroe, Dwayne Scott and the Fernandes brothers round out the selection. Each of these twelve players has represented Guyana during the prime of their career, which is testament to the quality of the side.
The team will be coached by Canadian International Jonathan Roberts, son of the late Cecil ‘Skip’ Roberts, a former stalwart of hockey and captain of Guyana. The rest of the team management comprises Manager Allan Newark, Assistant Manager Jeremy Roberts, and Assistant Coach George Melville.
