Guyana’s ruggers utilised home advantage to sound effect on Saturday afternoon, toppling Barbados 48-17 in the first round of the Southern Zone of Rugby America’s North (RAN) 15s campaign.
It was a total effort from the “Green Machine”, who completely outplayed their visiting counterparts. The Guyanese were led by Avery Corbin, who managed three tries, while Rickford Cummings, Dwayne Shroeder, Lancelot Adonis and Dane Parks added one apiece.
Ryan Gonsalves was also outstanding from the line with five conversions and a penalty, worth three points.
For Barbados, Anthony Faggiani had two tries and Jeren Clarke one, while Kevin Carter managed a conversion.
Following the comprehensive victory, the Guyanese will now switch focus to playing Jamaica on May 21 and Trinidad and Tobago on June 19.
The winner of this zone will play the winner of the Northern Zone for the overall RAN title. The winner will then move on to the qualifiers for a chance at the Rugby World Cup.
