Prime Minister (PM) Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips has underscored the longstanding and enduring partnership between Guyana and the Russian Federation during a reception hosted by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Andrey A Pritsepov, in commemoration of Russia’s National Day 2026.
In a post on the PM’s social media page, it was stated that Phillips on Friday evening lauded the national pride and celebration of the occasion, while noting that 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He described the milestone as one built on mutual respect, cooperation and shared values. The relationship, he emphasised, has not only been formal but genuinely driven by people to people exchanges, especially through culture and education.

The PM highlighted that generations of Guyanese students have benefitted from Russian scholarships and academic opportunities. These students, he explained, have returned home with knowledge and expertise that continue to contribute meaningfully to Guyana’s development. According to the post, PM Phillips also spoke about longstanding contributions between the two nations, including in the bauxite industry, and pointed to future collaboration in areas such as agriculture, climate and the environment.
The PM’s wife, Mignon Bowen Phillips; Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hugh Todd; Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond; members of the Diplomatic Corps; and other distinguished guests also attended the event.
