Remanded rape suspect’s wife accuses brother-in-law of raping her

…woman says attacker threatened to kill her, daughter during ordeal

The wife of a man currently on remand in connection with a sexual assault matter has reported to Police that her brother-in-law sexually assaulted her during an ordeal at her Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) home on Thursday night.
The 26-year-old woman alleged that the man entered her home while she and her eight-year-old daughter were inside and threatened to kill them if she raised an alarm. Speaking with reporters on Friday, the woman recounted the events that unfolded after she retired to bed following a day of work. According to her, she heard noises outside the house but did not see anyone. Later, she was awakened by sounds coming from inside the building. “I hear a sound like a foot thump in the house. And I jump up and I look; there is my brother-in-law, my husband brother. When I go to scramble the tablet, he done rush up to me and snatch me, and he start to choke me,” she alleged. The woman claimed that the suspect quickly overpowered her and warned her against making any noise. “He said ‘If you make any noise, everybody dead.’ So, I didn’t make no sound because I was very frightened,” she said. According to the woman, the man repeatedly threatened her while she feared for the safety of her daughter, who was asleep in the house at the time. She alleged that the suspect then sexually assaulted her.
During the ordeal, she claimed the man attempted to justify his actions.
“He said that today is his birthday and me didn’t give him nothing. I tell him, ‘I don’t have anything to give you’,” the woman recalled. After the alleged assault, the woman said the suspect remained at the house for a short period. She said that she attempted to use a tablet to capture an image of him, but he noticed what she was doing and confronted her once again. “He said, ‘Don’t do anything stupid. Don’t tell nobody.’ And he said if I tell anybody and he come back, he gon kill me,” she alleged.
The woman said it was only after the suspect had left that she realised her daughter had witnessed part of the incident. According to her, the child later revealed that she had been awake.
“‘Mommy, when me hear the knock, me wake up and see Daddy buddy. When he choke you and tell you that if you make any noise he would kill you and me, I pretend to sleep back on the bed’,” the woman said her daughter told her.
The woman said she immediately contacted friends, who assisted her in notifying the Police. Officers later responded, escorted her for medical attention and took a statement. The woman also revealed that there had been longstanding tension between herself and the accused.
The victim’s husband, her alleged rapists brother, is currently before the courts on accusation of raping a 66-year-old woman from the said village and is currently before the court and remains on remand. Meanwhile, Police arrested the suspect on Friday.
