Guyana signs air services agreement with The Kingdom of Morocco

Guyana and The Kingdom of Morocco signed an Open Skies Air Services Agreement on Thursday aimed at promoting and facilitating the operation of air services between the two countries, as well as beyond to any third country.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics with responsibilities for Aviation, Abdessamad Kayouh, and the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field.
The signing ceremony took place during the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in Marrakech, Morocco, which occurred between April 14 and 16, 2026.

In addition to standard provisions covering the grant of traffic rights, designation and authorisation, user charges, recognition of certificates and licences, customs duties and other similar charges tariffs, and commercial activities, among others, the agreement presents a significant opportunity for airlines of both countries to expand their air connectivity and broaden the routes they serve. Further, the agreement establishes the legal framework to open market access for airlines, with the aim of enhancing competitive air transport services, boosting trade and driving economic growth between the two nations. It is anticipated that the agreement will stimulate airlines’ interest in considering Guyana as part of their international route networks. Currently, there are no direct flights between Guyana and the Kingdom of Morocco. The agreement complements the more than 50 air services agreements Guyana has established with other ICAO States to develop air connectivity among states. Guyana and the Kingdom of Morocco established diplomatic relations on December 14, 2012.
