– Gold & diamond pendants for MVP’s
Guyana Softball Cup 6 bowls off today with 22 matches at five venues across Georgetown from 9:00h in both the Open and Masters Categories. Defending Open champion, Regal All-Stars will open their title defence against Ariel XI at the Guyana Defence Force Camp Ayangana Ground while Regal Master will first take on Parika Defenders at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary in quest for a second consecutive title.

Matches will also be played at the Malteenoes ground, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground and the Gandhi Youth Oragnisation (GYO) ground. The second round of 11 games starts at 13:00h at the same venues.
On Saturday morning at 9:00h, the final 11 preliminary games will be played while at 13:00h two semi- finals will be played simultaneously at Eve Leary. Over at the DCC ground, one semi-final also starts at 13:00h followed by the other at 17:00h. On Sunday at the DCC Ground only, will be the Masters and Open Finals as well as three exhibition female 10/10 games. The female teams are Mikes Wellwoman, Trophy Stall Angels, 4R Lioness and Blue Divas who will begin the final day action with semi-finals from 10:00h.
Some teams arrived yesterday and wasted no time to get in much needed practice as a form of acclimatization. New York Enforcers is one such team who utilized the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the scorching heat. The Enforcers said they will correct their previous mistakes and will first try to get into the semi-finals before thinking of the championship.
Meanwhile, at the end of the 3-day event the Most Valuable Player in each category will walk away with flashy diamond studded gold pendants. The precious gifts were donated to tournament organisers, the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) by Steve Narine, Manager of Steve’s Jewellery on Church Street.
In the previous 5 editions of the annual tournament, the jewellery establishment donated gold bracelets but decided to step things up this year when 24 teams will battle for supremacy. At the presentation ceremony, Naraine said he is pleased to support the tournament once again since it is professionally run and has high standards and will align his business with such qualities.
Regal made a sweep of the titles last year winning the Masters and All-Star categories.
