Guyana to play Barbados on March 26 and 31

2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup…

Following the hosting of the successful Super 16 Cup championship, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has now turned its focus back to the preparation of its Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) for the very important qualifiers that are upcoming.
The senior Golden Jaguars players, under the guidance of Head Coach Márcio Máximo, are on a path to qualify for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, but will have to cross two hurdles in order to punch their tickets.
As a result of ending second in Group C of the 2019-2020 CONCACAF Nations League (League B), behind group winners Jamaica, Guyana will now play a two-round qualifier in a direct elimination format against the League C (Group A) winners, Barbados.
Guyana is set to play on March 26 and 31 respectively. The first match of the two-round qualifier is scheduled for Barbados at 19:00hrs, while Guyana will be looking for home-court advantage in the final match, scheduled for the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora from 20:00hrs.
This was confirmed by CONCACAF even as the Senior Men’s National Team, commonly referred to as the Golden Jaguars, has been engaged in preparation for the fixture.
Guyana will oppose Barbados as a result of being second in the group qualifiers (Group C, League B) behind Jamaica and Barbados having won their group (Group A, League C).
According to the tournament rules, the winner of this match will play the winner of League A, Group C, Trinidad and Tobago, during the June FIFA International window, with the victor ultimately qualifying for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
To date, 12 nations have qualified for the tournament. They are: Canada, Costa Rica, Curacao, El Salvador, Grenada, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Suriname and the United States.
