Guyana’s participation in the South American Youth Games continues to expand with the arrival of its junior 3×3 basketball and chess teams in Panama City, Panama ahead of competition scheduled for April 23-25.
The junior boys’ 3×3 basketball team will contest the fast-paced format over three days. The squad comprises Stephan Duke, Daniel Chisholm, Kadeem Beckles, and Jaden Simon, and will be guided by Coach Sileena Arjune. The team are reported to be in high spirits as they prepare to represent Guyana in the condensed version of the sport.

Guyana are competing across eight disciplines at the regional multi-sport event: boxing, table tennis, tennis, archery, athletics, badminton, chess and 3×3 basketball.
The country’s chess team’s competition window runs concurrently from April 23-25. The team include Italy Ton-Chung and Candidate Master (CM) Sachin Pitamber, the reigning national chess champion, while FIDE Master (FM) Anthony Drayton will serve in a coaching role.

The event will mark a milestone for the sport, as chess makes its official debut as a participatory discipline within the South American Youth Games programme.
With both teams now in place, Guyana will be aiming to make a positive impact and add to their lone medal (won by boxer Ken Harvey) when competition gets underway later this week.
