As part of activities marking Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the Guyana Defence Force has launched a series of community engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening ties with residents in hinterland and riverine communities.
Over the past week, ranks from the Force carried out outreach activities in communities across Regions One and Seven, as well as along the Pomeroon and Essequibo Rivers. Communities visited included Kaikan, Aishalton, St John’s Mission, Hackney, Marlborough, Martindale, Bonasika, Saxacalli, Agatash and Karrou.
During the engagements, ranks met with village leaders, residents, teachers and students to discuss issues relating to community welfare, security concerns, cooperation, and mutual respect between civilians and military personnel operating within the areas.
The discussions also focused on improving communication, maintaining professionalism, and building stronger relationships between the Force and the communities it serves.
As part of the outreach, ranks held interactive sessions with nursery and primary school students aimed at promoting patriotism, civic responsibility and national pride among young people.
In several communities, sports equipment was also donated to support youth development and recreational activities.
According to the Force, the engagements form part of its continued commitment to national service, community partnership and meaningful interaction with citizens during Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
