Guyana’s Briton John wins time trial stage in French Guiana cycling meet

Guyanese cyclist Briton John continued his strong showing on the French Guiana cycling circuit after winning the individual time trial stage of the Grand Prix Cycliste de l’Ouest on Sunday.
John, who is representing Sinnamary Cycling Club in French Guiana, produced the fastest time in the 14-kilometre race between Mana and Awala-Yalimapo to win the stage in 15 minutes and 20 seconds.
The result tightened the battle for the overall classification heading into the final day of racing, although yellow jersey holder Larry Lutin managed to retain the lead after clocking 15 minutes and 42 seconds in the time trial.

Benjamin Bousquet of Vélo Club du Maroni finished second in the stage with a time of 15 minutes and 34 seconds. His performance capped a successful day for the Saint-Laurent club after it had earlier secured victory in the road stage between Javouhey and Mana.
Speaking after the race, John said he approached the stage with confidence.
John also expressed hope that his performance would help him reduce the gap to the overall leader before the final stage of the competition.
The Grand Prix Cycliste de l’Ouest has attracted several top riders from across the region, with the battle for the yellow jersey still open heading into the final day on Monday.
