Guyanese busted with 3.1kg of cocaine at EF Correia Airport

A 21-year-old woman was on Wednesday arrested at the Eugene F Correia International Airport, Ogle East Coast Demerara with a quantity of cocaine strapped to her body.
According to reports, the woman was travelling to Barbados via a LIAT flight to in-transit there before boarding a flight to the John F Kennedy International Airport, New York.
Members of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) saw the woman acting in a suspicious manner as she was checking in at the local airport, and as such, she was taken into a room where a search was conducted on her person.
During the search, the cocaine was discovered in several packets strapped to the woman’s body. The illegal substance was subsequently weighed and amounted to 3.1 kilograms. She is assisting with investigations.
The woman is expected to make her first court appearance today.
