Guyanese fashion icon receives doctorate from GODSU

Guyanese fashion icon Sonia Noel’s US summer tour is winding down as her popular “Conversation and Clothing” brand was featured in several states.
Noel also collaborated with two other accomplished Guyanese – Rosalind McClymont and hat Designer Marcus Killikelly – to launch NEXUS, an evening of Style and Narrative. Her hectic schedule did not stop her from engaging in other non-fashion oriented endeavor.
Earlier this year she enrolled in the John Maxwell online university for the leadership programme. John C Maxwell is the number one New York Times bestselling author, coach, and speaker who has sold more than 25 million books in 50 languages.
In 2014 he was identified as the number one leader in business by the American Management Association and the most influential leadership expert in the world by Business Insider and Inc Magazine.

He has also been voted the top leadership professional in the world on LeadershipGurus.net for six consecutive years.
However, the international certification programme was for three days in Orlando, Florida, USA, with over 3400 participates from around the world.
“It was a great feeling walking through the hall seeing the Guyana flag added to the lineup because of my participation. The programme has added value to me and I can’t wait to share”, Noel stated.
The fashion icon noted that it was challenging completing the course but it was well worth it in the end, because of the level of training provided by Maxwell. Immediately after the course, Noel was on a flight to Washington, DC, for another engagement.
Earlier this year, she did a number of interviews with the board of Global Oved Dei Seminary and University (GODSU) in the United States.
She was however, recommended for an honorary doctorate. Grammy award winning singer Kelly Price also received an honorary doctorate from the university.
“As I received my award for Doctor of Philosophy in Humane Letters, I reflected to the little girl in Bartica that had many dreams and she is realising them through God’s grace. These accolades were given to me but they are for the young girl or boys who are afraid to dream and think big,” she lamented.
She thanked the Almighty, her family and the people who believe in her vision and assisted in this journey, especially Mr Mohamed of Mohamed’s Enterprise for his constant support.
In addition, she thanked the media in Guyana, the Caribbean and further afield.
