A large contingent of Guyanese hockey players will travel to Trinidad and Tobago this week to compete in the inaugural International Police Hockey (IPH) Outdoor Tournament, which is scheduled for July 9 to 12, 2026.
The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) announced that Guyana will be represented by teams from three local clubs, underlining the continued growth of the sport at the club level.
The travelling teams include Old Fort Men, Georgetown Cricket Club Men and Women, and a mixed team from Hikers Hockey Club. The Hikers’ side will also include players from Saints, Old Fort, and Trinidad and will compete under the name Shane & Friends Elite.

The tournament is expected to provide valuable regional exposure for the Guyanese players, who will have the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition and further develop their outdoor hockey skills.
According to the Guyana Hockey Board, participation in the event is also important for strengthening relationships among clubs across the region and supporting the wider development of hockey in Guyana and the Caribbean.
The board said it was encouraged by the commitment shown by the clubs, players, coaches, and supporters who continue to invest time and resources into the sport. It also noted that tournaments of this nature are important as Guyana continues to build competitive pathways for both senior and developing players.
The GHB also acknowledged the role of private sector sponsors, supporters, and local fundraising efforts in making the trip possible. The travelling clubs worked to raise the necessary funds, with the support reflecting the value placed on sport, youth development, and community representation.
The Board extended best wishes to all the participating teams and players as they prepare to represent their clubs and Guyana at the inaugural tournament.
