GY$357,000 in category prizes up for grabs at Carlton Wheelers road race

Cyclists will compete for GY$357,000 in category prizes when the AC Marriott Carlton Wheelers Cycling Club stages its road race on Sunday, September 27, with a further GY$16,000 allocated to eight sprint prizes.
The race is scheduled to start at 07:30h from AC Marriott, with competition for Open riders, Masters over 40, Masters over 50, Category Four cyclists, Juniors/Juveniles and Ladies.

The Open category carries the largest share of the prize money, with GY$45,000 for the winner. Second place will receive GY$40,000, followed by GY$35,000 for third, GY$30,000 for fourth, GY$20,000 for fifth and GY$15,000 for sixth.
Open competitors will complete 10 laps, along with riders in the Masters over-40, Category Four and Juniors/Juveniles divisions. Masters over 50 will race over five laps, while the Ladies will complete three.
From the starting point at AC Marriott, cyclists will head north and turn at the Ogle Airport stoplight. They will then travel south to the first U-turn just after the police outpost on the Ogle Bypass Road before returning to the starting point to complete the circuit.
The Masters over-40 and Category Four divisions each offer GY$20,000 for first place, GY$15,000 for second and GY$10,000 for third.
In the Masters over-50 category, the winner will collect GY$15,000, with GY$12,000 for the runner-up and GY$10,000 for third place. The Juniors/Juveniles division offers GY$20,000 for first and GY$15,000 for second, while the Ladies’ winner will receive GY$10,000.
Eight sprint prizes, each worth GY$2000, will also be available during the event.
The club is promoting the race under the slogan “Ride hard. Ride smart. Race to win!”
