Hornets, Falcons looking to score first points

– national spots “on the line”, says Green

Pepsi Hornets and Police Falcons will be desperate to get their first points in the second round of the Guyana Rugby Football Union’s (GRFU’s) Bounty Farms XVs tournament when action continues today at the National Park.
When they face the young but aggressive Falcons unit, Hornets will be looking to stamp their authority on proceedings, having already lost two games in the tournament. They are expected to field several senior national players.
GDF and Panthers will on Sunday be renewing their rivalry in what is anticipated to be an electrifying contest. Both teams will be coming full strength in this match for points on the table.
Scrum-off time will be 16:00hs on both days. The tournament will take a break on May 20 for the Pepsi Hornets Carnival Sevens Tournament.
In a recap of last week, Panthers humiliated a 12-man Yahama Caribs side 69-15, while GDF topped the Pepsi Hornets 26-13 in their first 15s match of the year.
Meanwhile, GRFU president, Peter Green, in statement to the media on Friday, expressed his concern over players “not showing up for matches without valid and acceptable excuses (illness or injury)”.
Should the occurrence continue, he stated, “They will not be considered for selection to the upcoming America’s Rugby Challenge championship in Colombia in August”.
Additionally, “the international-based players will be requested to send updates — video or otherwise — of their activities and training for consideration for selection”.
