Hurricanes will need wins to catch up with the Jaguars – Smith, Cornwall maintain top rankings

2018-2019 CWI Regional 4-Day tournament…

After nine rounds of matches played by four-time defending champions Guyana Jaguars, they remain table leaders of the 2018-2019 Cricket West Indies Regional 4-Day tournament. Jaguars have 136 points, 25.2 points ahead of Leeward Islands Hurricanes. The Hurricanes team will play two more matches this season, in contrast to Jaguars’ one.
The Jaguars recorded six wins and three losses in their nine encounters, while second place Hurricanes have five wins, two losses and one draw in their eight matches played. This season will see an exciting finish, but Jaguars will be eager to win their final match to guarantee themselves a fifth title. In third position, Barbados Pride have 96 points, while fourth place Windward Islands Volcanoes have 86 points.
The Jaguars’ next opponent, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, are in fifth position with 85.6 points, while Jamaica Scorpions have 82.4 points and are at the bottom of the table.
In the batting department, in the latter part of the season, the experienced campaigner Devon Smith has 713 runs, scored at an average of 47.53 with two centuries and one half century. Hurricanes’ Montcin Hodge is in second position with 641 runs, scored at an average of 42.73, with two centuries and one half-century to his name. Jonathan Carter’s 580 is ranked in third position, with one century and four half centuries.
In the bowling department, Rahkeem Cornwall reigns supreme with 49 wickets in seven matches, with three five- wicket hauls. Guyana’s Permaul has 39 wickets in nine matches, and Imran Khan has 36 wickets in eight matches.
Nikita Miller has showed his killer instincts in the four matches he played he grabbed 35 wickets. Jaguars’ Romario Shepherd is the leading fast bowler with 29 wickets at an average of 23.06 with a best bowling figure of 4-36. Anthony Bramble remains the leading gloves man with 37 dismissals in 18 innings he kept wicket. (Brandon Corlette)
