Hururu, JC Chandisingh dominate as YBG Regionals continue

Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) tipped off its Region 10 “Big 10” regional competition on Friday at the Amelia’s Ward Hard Court in Linden with a series of one-sided and competitive encounters, while action also continued in the Region Six “Ancient County” tournament with dominant performances from JC Chandisingh Secondary and Skeldon Line Path.
In Linden, Hururu Secondary stamped their authority early, sweeping both of their matches in convincing fashion. In the girls’ opening game, Hururu blanked Mackenzie High 8–0, led by Kayann Grimmond, who finished with six points and three steals to earn Player of the Game honours. They followed up with an emphatic 49–0 victory over Harmony Secondary in the boys’ division, with Breyon Shultz producing a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Peter Roger supported well with 12 points and seven rebounds in the dominant showing.

Mackenzie High rebounded in their second outing, this time in the boys’ division, to secure a 22-16 win against Kwakwani Secondary. Shaquan Massiah led the charge with 12 points and three steals to take Player of the Game honours, while Jonathan Sampson chipped in with six points and five rebounds. Kwakwani’s Alanzo Mittleholzer was their standout performer with six points and five rebounds in defeat.
Meanwhile, in Region Six, the “Ancient Regional” tournament continued with JC Chandisingh Secondary and Skeldon Line Path producing commanding results. In the girls’ division, JC Chandisingh overwhelmed Skeldon Line Path 20–0, with Jada Minty leading the way with six points, three assists and three steals, supported by Renecia Rose, who also scored six points.
Skeldon Line Path responded strongly in the boys’ category, thrashing Lower Corentyne Secondary 45–5. Daniel Duke and Chris Promes led the scoring with 10 points each, while Kellon Lyte added nine and Joel Sukhram contributed to a balanced team effort. For Lower Corentyne, Joash Benn managed four points and four rebounds.
JC Chandisingh Secondary returned to the court to register another win, defeating Manchester Secondary 36–17. Mark Mendonca led the scoring with 15 points to earn Player of the Game honours, while Denaldo Henry added 10 points. Manchester’s Jaral Campbell scored seven points, with Lexoy Lovell contributing six in the loss.
The regional tournaments are being supported by Edward B Beharry Ltd, G-Boats Inc, the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Banks DIH Ltd.
