CWI/ Digicel PCL Regional 4-Day
– Keemo Paul gets memorable debut
A collective effort by Guyana Jaguars bowlers helped them dominate day one of their seventh round clash against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force of the Cricket West Indies Digicel Professional Cricket League Regional Four Day Tournament at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Friday. Red Force were bowled out for 202 while the Jaguars closed the opening day on 38-1.

Rajendra Chandrika, who was brought back in the team to replace the injured Tagenarine Chanderpaul at the top of the order is unbeaten on 12 and with him is night watchman Devendra Bishoo on six. Shimron Hetmyer was out to a good catch off Bryan Charles for 15.
Earlier, consistent left arm seamer, Raymond Reifer captured three wickets to restrict Red Force, receiving support from medium fast rookie Romario Shepherd and spinners Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo, who snared two wickets apiece.
Nineteen year old debutant Keemo Paul also captured a wicket, which was the initial breakthrough for the Jaguars and the wicket of Evin Lewis for 22. However, what started as a dream debut ended in injury as the teenager Paul damaged one of his finger while trying to field a ball off his own bowling in his sixth over.
Six Red Force batsmen got starts of more than 20 but none of them made use of those with the top scores being 41 made by Isaiah Rajah and 36 by Imran Khan. Yannick Cariah, who scored a century in the previous round played a patient knock with 33.
Jaguars are presently 168 runs adrift of their opponents’ first innings total, they would believe they could surpass that with their strong batting line-up. However, due to the absence of their most senior batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Red Force are probably thinking they have an outside chance for a lead.
Jaguars defeated Scorpions in the previous round to move closer to a third consecutive title. If they win this match they will extend their lead atop of the table. An interesting second day is ahead of us.
