Jamaul John to defend Flying Ace title in 76-km National Park showdown

Defending champion Jamaul John will headline a competitive field when the Flying Ace Cycling Club stages its annual cycling event on Sunday around the National Park outer circuit.
The 76-kilometre (km) contest will begin at 14:00h on Irving Street and will cover 20 laps of the 3.8km circuit. Riders will compete in the senior, veteran, over-50, Category Four, juvenile, and junior divisions.
Farm Supplies Guyana Limited has again partnered with the club to support the event, which is expected to produce an exciting and tactical battle among some of the country’s leading cyclists.
The company’s sponsorship was formally presented by Chelsea Motley of its Accounts Department to Flying Ace Vice President Linden Dowridge as the club completed preparations for the race.
John will return seeking to retain the championship, but he is expected to face strong opposition during the demanding 20-lap contest.
The senior champion will receive $30,000, while the second- and third-place finishers will collect $20,000 and $15,000, respectively. The next three riders will earn $10,000, $8000 and $6000.

The veteran, over-50 and Category Four winners will each receive $18,000. The juvenile and junior champions will collect $12,000 apiece.
Prizes will also be awarded to the other leading finishers in the various categories. Ten prime prizes valued at $1500 each will be contested by the senior riders, taking the overall prize package to $300,000.
Farm Supplies Guyana Limited Sales Manager Dale Van Sluytman, a former Flying Ace junior cyclist, is expected to attend with members of the company’s team and present the prizes to the winners.
Dowridge thanked the company, Guyana’s principal supplier of heavy equipment and farm supplies, for continuing to support the club and local cycling.
