Raynauth “Obeah Man” Jeffrey stunned the crowd in the 6th Bakers Memorial race

Having recently excelled in the Sunshine Grand Prix in Florida, Jeffrey finished the three-lap, 60-mile journey in a time of two hours, 25 minutes and 31 seconds. The lap entailed a 20-mile distance beginning at the GTT junction in front of the Bakers’ residence and going through the town of Linden on to the highway and back.
Jeffrey was followed by Alanzo Ambrose, riding for Team Alanis and enjoying relatively good success for the 2017 season. Team Coco’s Jamual John finished third, while We Stand United’s Andrew Hicks came in fourth position. Rounding off the top six were Coco’s Hamzah Eastman in fifth and Team Evolution’s Paul DeNobrega in sixth.
Speaking to Guyana Times Sport after the race, the Obeah Man said he was unclear as to what to expect, having been out of the country and not knowing who was fit and who to look out for. But by about one mile out, he and five others had broken away from the pack and maintained that distance until the last of the three-lap race, when he crossed the finishing line solo.
In the female race, Nazeema Bharrat dominated the action, with Abigail Jeffrey finishing second and Bianka Barker completing the podium position.
Meanwhile, in the Juniors’ division, Briton John rode away from the pack to secure the win from Jason Cameron and Adealie Hodge, who took second and third respectively.
The veteran Over-50 race was won by Andrew Spencer, while G. Lorrimer and Andrew Kellman were second and third in that order.
In the Under-50 veterans’ race, Junior Niles once again took the honours, as Lear Nunes trailed in second and Warren McKay in third.
