Judiciary to honour late Justice Kennard at ceremonial court sitting this week

There will be a special sitting of the Full Court to honour the life of the late former Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Cecil Kennard, who died three Saturdays ago at the age of 86 following a brief period of illness. It is expected that several judicial officers, including Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards and Chief Justice Roxane George, SC, will pay tribute to the legal luminary.
Justice Kennard was passionate about the law, particularly criminal law. A statement on his passing from the Judiciary said that he has left a rich legacy of decisions that have enriched the jurisprudence of Guyana and the Caribbean.
Former Chancellor Kennard, who had been the recipient of two national awards, namely the Order of Roraima (OR) and the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH), had studied law at the United Kingdom’s prestigious Lincoln’s Inn.
