Justice Winston Anderson has been appointed to serve as the acting president of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) from August 2 to September 16, 2024. This appointment was made by Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, who is the current Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
Justice Anderson steps into the role while the current President of the CCJ, Justice Adrian Saunders, is on leave. According to Article VIII, Paragraph 1 of the Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Court of Justice, the functions of the Court’s President are to be performed by the most senior Judge of the Court, appointed by the Chairman of the Conference until the President returns.
Having been appointed as a Judge in June 2010, Justice Anderson is the most senior Judge currently serving on the CCJ, qualifying him for this interim role.
