Ketley Primary are windball champs

Ketley Primary have beaten their rivals, Sophia Primary, to win their first major title in windball cricket competition.

as the curtains came down on the 22nd annual end-of-school-year Edward Cobenna Memorial Windball Cricket Competition, which was organised by A. Munroe, promoted by AL Sports & Tour Promotions, and staged by the National Sports Commission, Ketley Primary prevailed in a keenly contested game played before screaming parents, players and their head-teacher, who were in the stands to witness the proceedings, to earn the right to uplift the Edward Cobenna Memorial Windball Cricket Competition Trophy.
In this game, played with the pink ball, Sophia were sent in to bat first. They put up a respectable score of 63–2, with Kiazianna Thompson scoring 20 from 14 balls; Latifa Sanford scoring 14, and Annessa Hussain scoring 10 not out.
Bowling for Ketley, Tia Fowler with 1-9 and N. Fraser with 1-18 had the best figures.
Ketley brushed aside their opponents as they cruised to their target of 64 without losing a wicket, and with 5 balls still to be bowled.
Tia Fowler was adjudged the ‘player of the tournament’ for her stellar performance with bat and ball. She hit 36 runs and took one wicket for just nine runs.
Her teammate Ommianna Vanderhyden contributed 23 runs to the winning total.
Third and fourth places in the competition were respectively captured by Enterprise Primary and Saint Pius Primary.
Ketley Primary also won the Best Uniform Team award, while Gemacy Gittens of Enterprise Primary received the ‘most promising player’ prize donated by ASTP – David Wren.
The organizers of this tournament are hereby extending their gratitude to all who played a part in making it the memorable event it was. The following special guests are also being thanked: NSC Board Member Ryan Belgrave; Region 4 Education Office; former Ast DoS Brian Smith; Head Teacher of Winfer Gardens Primary, Clanise Cobenna; Hutton Mars; Kwabenna Wright; Head teacher of Ketley Primary, Francina Nichols; and especially all the parents and children who attended the event.
Gratitude is also being extended to those who especially supported the event, such as His Worship the Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall; Christopher Jones, Director of Sport; Marlyn Amanda Hope; and AL Sports & Tour Promotions.
The Edward Cobenna Windball Competition had seen commendable participation from a mammoth sixty-six (66) teams drawn from areas around the country, such as Regions 3, 4 and Georgetown.
