Kitty man remanded on car parts theft

Magistrate Faith McGusty on Wednesday remanded a 57-year-old Kitty, Georgetown resident after he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a simple larceny charge.
Michael Smith denied the charge, which alleged that between March 16 and 17, 2019 at Pike Street, Kitty, he stole a quantity of car parts including a car battery, two car mirrors, a sun visor, electrical fittings, among other items; all at a cost of $58,000 and the property of Viswanand Narine.
According to the prosecution’s case, the Virtual Complainant discovered the items missing from his parked vehicle. The VC, who observed a trail of blood leading away from his car followed same which led to the suspect’s home. According to the prosecution, when the suspect was confronted by the VC, he fled the scene. A report was then made to the Kitty Police Station after which a search was conducted at Smith’s home where the stolen items were recovered.
Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummel objected to bail being granted. Magistrate McGusty upheld the prosecution’s submission and remanded Smith to prison. The case will continue on April 10.
