Known character jailed for assault, threatening language

A 24-year-old Norton and Chapel Streets, Georgetown resident, who is no stranger to the court since he was charged for murder, attempted murder and a series of armed robberies in 2018 and early in 2019, was once again charged, this time for assault and threatening language when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday.

Jailed: Carlton Bourne

Carlton Bourne, who is currently on remand for robbery charges and discharging a loaded firearm, stood before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded guilty to the charges which read that on October 15, 2019, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, he unlawfully assaulted Sherryann Persaud. Another stated that on the same day and location, he made use of threatening language towards the said Virtual Complainant.
In his address to the court, Prosecutor Christopher Morris highlighted that Persaud is also a victim in a robbery matter which Bourne is on trial for, before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess.
According to the facts presented, on the day in question, the VC was present at a trial hearing during which she was called. But whilst standing close to the prisoner’s dock, in which Bourne seated, the defendant suddenly stood up and spat on Persaud then proceeded to threaten to take her life.
After listening to the facts, Magistrate Daly, without hesitation, sentenced Bourne to six months on each charge, which are expected to run concurrently.
In August of this year, the said defendant was slapped with four armed robbery charges and discharging a firearm at one of the robbery victims.
