Kwakwani Strikers, Demerara Queens record wins in Linden’s opener

GFF Women’s Development League…

The Women’s Development League under the aegis of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the National Association For Women’s Football (NAWF) kicked-off on Sunday in Linden.

The first match- up saw Kwakwani Strikers coming up against the New Amsterdam (N.A) Warriors followed by Demerara Queens versus Kuru Kuru Warriors.

Game 1 saw Kwakwani Strikers defeating New Amsterdam (N.A) Warriors 3 goals to 1. Ashanna Williams netted the first goal for the winning team, which was followed by a second goal by Norleen Rogers. The third goal for the winning team was secured by 10- year old Jalade Trim.

Meanwhile, action in game 2 saw Demerara Queens defeating Kuru Kuru Warriors 5 goals to nil. Registering the winning goals were Sheralyn Kingston (3), Latoya Whittington (1) and Lisa Parkinson (1).

Districts One is scheduled to begin their League participation on September 24 due, in part, to logistical challenges being experienced.

The two-month league will realize the participation of thirteen (13) clubs drawn from three-geographically designated districts:

District One – North East District comprising Georgetown, West Demerara, Essequibo and Bartica Regional Football Associations.

District Two – North West District comprising Berbice, East Demerara, East Bank and the Upper Demerara Football Associations and

District Three – Rupununi Regional Football Association.

The Women’s Development League is designed to facilitate competitive women’s football participation, create public awareness of the sport and to expand the players’ pool.
