Lallbachan, Campbell star in Essequibo’s demolition
Dave West Indian Imports and Exports U-15 Inter-County tournament…
– Berbice record win against President’s XI
The action continued in Round 3 of the Dave West Indian Imports and Exports Under-15 Inter County Tournament, as Essequibo U-15 battled Demerara U-15 in a low scoring affair at the Everest Cricket Ground on Camp Road in Georgetown.
Essequibo won the toss and took first strike on a pitch that was more favourable to the chasing team. For the past two matches played at the Everest ground, both teams have won chasing. Essequibo, however, took to the field in full confidence. They would later regret that decision, as they found themselves at 22-3 early on.
Essequibo lost Sarwan Bishram (01) and Shazziff Mohamed (6) to the bowling of Thaddeus Lovell. Then Deo Khanai found himself walking back to the pavilion shortly after.
Essequibo needed a miracle, with Justin Meghu and Aryan Dodnauth at the crease, but again lost three more wickets in quick succession.
Meghu and Dodnauth compiled a partnership of 12 before Meghu departed, trapped leg before by Omari Lallbachan for 10.
Eight runs later, Lallbachan struck with a double wicket, as he removed Sheridin Stoll and Ravy Nandalall for 6 and zero respectively, to leave the score at 48-6.
The Essequibo side then crawled into their shell as a full on collapse occurred. The last four wickets tumbled quickly despite Essequibo drawing the innings out to 46.3 overs. When Dodnauth ran himself out for 21, the tail could do nothing, as Lallbachan, Rayad Latiff and Charles swooped in and cleaned up the tail.
Demerara’s bowling was led by Lalbachan, who snagged 4-18; Joash Charles, who claimed 2-16; Lovell (2-12) and Latiff (1-12).
Needing just 83 for victory, Demerara made light work of the total, as the in-form Jodan Campbell top scored with an unbeaten 40 in leading the run chase with Mooindra Dindyal. He supported well with 22 not out, despite losing Lovell for 16 off the bowling of Gladwin Henry. Henry was the only wicket taker for Essequibo, bagging 1-23.
Meanwhile in the other match at Lusignan, Berbice defeated President’s XI by 41 runs. The boys from Berbice won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 135 all out in 47.2 overs. Tameshwar Mohabir continued his consistency, scoring 30 while Capatin Isaiah Thorne top scored with 34.
Bowling for President’s XI, Sachin Balgobin and Nityanad Mathura had three wickets each.
In reply, Essequibo were bowled out for 85 in 44.5 overs; Matthew Pottaya had 4-20 in 10 overs, while Salim Khan and Thorne had two wickets each.
