In a night where a total of twenty goals were scored from the matches, the Leopold Street match up against Festival City may have just tipped the rest of the proceedings in terms of determination and skill.

Akeem Rajkumar broke the deadlock in the 5th minute in a physical battle for the ball just in front of the box. The next goal by Rondel Williams in the 11th minute was an absolute scorcher, with a blinding kick from the left post which by all accounts seemed to seal the match for his team.

In the dying minutes of the match, the Festival City side found a rejuvenated enthusiasm as they strung together several offensive plays to put the pressure back on the opposition which resulted in Jamal Browne scoring in the 18th but the Leopold Street found a way to keep out the ball out of the net to secure the victory.

In another match, Campbellville made light work of West Back Road by easily winning 2-0 thanks a double by Ozeal Small who scored in both halves, 14th and 20th.

In the night’s third match, West Front Road demolished the Ministry of Health in a commanding five nil victory, at the hands of a double by Randolph Wagner in the 15th and 18th. Wagner was aided by Nathaniel Nagaloo in the 13th, Michael Pedro in the 2nd and Jermaine Junior in the 17th.

North Ruimveldt were held by Alexander Village in a battling 4-4 draw, in which Alexander Village surrendered the lead with an own goal in the 7th. Anthony Sancho scored in the 8th minute to double North Ruimveldt’s lead.

The Alexanger Village side hit back in the 9th minute with a Shem Porter goal but in keeping head-to-head tussle of the two teams, Gerald Gittens notched a goal in the 11th minute to double his side’s lead once more.

Sheldon Fletcher put his name on the score sheet in the 13th to make sure the Alexander Village side were not out of the match by time the end of the first half.

Jamal Hamilton in the 15th and Sancho once more in the 22nd made it seemed that the North Ruimveldt side would coast to a victory but Ryan October pulled a shocker out the bag in the 23rd to ensure this team gets a share of the points.

Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers from each group along with the four best third place finishers will advance to the knockout round.

Albouystown and North East La Penitence also played to a draw with goals coming off the feet of Calvin Moore in the 8th and Devon Dooker in the 23rd for their respective team.

In the final match, Channel-9 won via walkover over Back Circle; the next round of matches are schooled for Thursday at the Parade ground.

The winning team will collect $300,000 and the Championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.

On the other hand, the third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.
