LGC to host Shiv Chanderpaul Golf Classic

Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) President confirmed for the first time that the club in partnership with West Indies batting legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be hosting a “Shiv Chanderpaul” Classic Open set for summer for 2018.

The ground-breaking news is set to juice up the usual yearly events as Hussain told Guyana Times Sport on Sunday that the club has decided to make the proposed Shiv Chanderpaul Classic one of their 4 major events billed for 2018.
Hussain said the event is set to target cricketers from across the Caribbean who will come to the Lusignan Course for a summer weekend and tackle some of Guyana’s best as well as reliving old rivalries against teammates with a club in the hand instead of a cricket bat.
The President believed that with golf being a past time sport of most cricketers worldwide and country’s like Barbados having the Sir Garfield Sobers Festival of Golf, it’s safe to say that a tournament featuring and named off of the West Indies most capped Test player and second leading run-scorer of all time; will rake in numerous high-profile cricketers both locally and abroad.
Also, the LGC president said that with the golf on the rise, it is important to remember that most athletes turn to golf as a means of relaxation; yet still competitiveness. He also noted that it was great for the fraternity to have such friendly rivalries between the two genres of sport; as cricketers can try to upset the seasoned pros in their own game.
The competition is set for July or August 2018 and will be a two day event.
