Liliendaal Bridge repairs 65% complete – Patterson

Works at the Liliendaal Bridge, Greater Georgetown are some 65 per cent completed – as the Public Infrastructure Ministry pushes to wrap up the rehabilitation before the deadline of July 2017.

This is according to Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson who was at the time responding to concerns expressed on social media about the pace of the works on the Bridge.

In his comments on social media, Patterson noted that all the piling and crossbeams have been completed, and the decking, which was prefabricated, would soon be “dropped in”.

Minister Patterson disclosed that the new completion date for the works is May 22, 2017.

The Bridge had shown signs of imminent failure. One of the panels had been detached making the structure unstable.

The rehabilitation of the Liliendaal Bridge is being carried out based on recommendations from the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) Inspection Team and engineers attached to the Ministry.

The $89 million project is being undertaken by H Nauth & Sons Civil Engineering Contractors.
