Linden chef killed in 3-vehicle collision along Linden Highway

A chef has become Guyana’s latest road fatality following a three-vehicle collision on Friday evening in the vicinity of Loo Creek, Linden/Soesdyke Highway. The dead man has been identified as Jamal Albert of Greenheart Street, Mackenzie Linden. Based on reports received, the accident occurred at about 19:45h and involved motor car PAM 471, which was at the time driven by Albert, and motor car GAK 1074, driven by a resident of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown. Preliminary investigations revealed that Albert was driving at a fast rate of speed and in the process of overtaking several vehicles, he ended up in the path of the motor canter, which was being towed by another motor canter, thus resulting in a head-on collision. As a result of the collision, Albert was reportedly trapped in the wrecked vehicle he was driving and had to be removed by members of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) who had to cut the mangled vehicle.

He, along with a 39-year-old occupant of the motor car, was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Albert succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment. The female occupant of the car and the driver of the Canter were treated and admitted. They received lacerations to their bodies. Guyana Times understands that at the time of the accident, it was raining. Back in June, it was reported that between 2020 and 2025, Guyana experienced significant fluctuations in road fatalities. Deaths reached a peak of 175 in 2023, while fatalities declined to 132 in 2024 and 2025. For the first 170 days of 2026, when compared to the same period in 2025, fatal accidents increased from 54 to 56, and the number of deaths increased from 58 to 62, with speeding remaining the leading contributor to fatal accidents. Statistics showed that in 2024, speeding accounted for 94 per cent of fatal accidents, while in the first half of 2026, it has already accounted for 75 per cent of fatal accidents.
