Police have reportedly discovered approximately 2.325 kilograms (kg) of cannabis during a patrol in the Bosai Bauxite Mines area in Upper Demerara River, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
According to Police, the discovery was made on Wednesday at about 19:45h, when ranks were in the vicinity of the entrance to the airstrip and observed two males travelling on separate XR motorcycles, each carrying a bulky bag on their backs.
Upon noticing the Police vehicle, the men reportedly rode in the direction of the airstrip, prompting ranks to pursue them.
During the chase, one of the suspects lost control of his motorcycle and fell. He subsequently abandoned the motorcycle and fled into nearby bushes, leaving behind a camouflage bag.
The second suspect managed to escape on his motorcycle. Ranks examined the abandoned bag and discovered a large parcel wrapped in transparent plastic containing a quantity of cannabis.
The motorcycle, bag and suspected narcotics were taken to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed and found to amount to 2.325 kg (5.1 pounds).
No arrests were made at the time of the incident. Police said investigations are ongoing.
