This is according to Commander of E Division (Linden- Kwakwani), Senior Superintendent Linden Lord, who, along with ranks of the division, in an effort to promote both education and sports, made donations of school items and sporting gear that will benefit scores of Lindeners.
Commander Lord told this publication that on Wednesday, 45 children of Police ranks attached to the Mackenzie Police Station received school bags and stationary supplies to assist their families. He noted that in order to assist both the parents and children of those families, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) ZARA Computer Centre located at Eve Leary, Georgetown, provided these donations.
Meanwhile, a quantity of sporting gear that can be used in various sports were also donated to a specific area in Block ” Upper West, Watooka, Demerara River (Region 10) where it is expected that over 100 residents there would directly benefit.

According to the Commander, there are instances where some parents found it extremely difficult to provide much-needed school supplies and items for their children to obtain an education and that such an initiative was executed with the aim of alleviating the financial burdens on Police ranks.
Additionally, it was pointed out that while education is deemed as crucial for a child’s future, sport should not be overlooked. He added that this is why the Police force deemed it necessary to also provide sporting gear for residents so that their children can stay fit and healthy while learning or perfecting sporting talents.
Also, such opportunities will provide youths and young adults with alternatives to safely and gainfully occupy their free time and this in turn would help to prevent them from indulging in criminal activities, he added.
