A businesswoman is now hospitalised after she was shot to her leg by a lone gunman during a robbery at the Harbour Bridge Mall, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Nelia Singh, 42, of Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, operates a business at the Harbour Bridge Mall and on the morning in question, she turned up to open as per normal.
However, Police stated that at approximately 10:05h, she was confronted by the lone gunman who was standing in front of the mall. He reportedly held onto the woman’s handbag but the woman put up a fight. In retaliation, the man discharged a round, hitting the woman to her lower right leg and relieved her of the hand bag.
After committing the act, the bandit escaped leaving the woman on the ground as she bled from her leg. She was picked up by public-spirited citizens who took her to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted.
Her condition is regarded as stable. The Police were called in and are presently reviewing CCTV footage with the hope of identifying the man.
