Lotto/Let’s Bet One Guyana T10 Tapeball: Mohan foresees economic boost as tournament returns to Essequibo

Regional Chairman of Region Two Devin Mohan has lauded the arrival of the Lotto/Let’s Bet One Guyana T10 Tapeball tournament to the Essequibo Coast, predicting that the marquee event will deliver a major economic boost through sports tourism and local empowerment.
Speaking at the newly transformed Anna Regina National Stadium, Mohan expressed his delight at the commercial and community momentum building ahead of the fixtures on August 22 and 23.
“I must say that this would be a great initiative for our region. With this magnificent piece of transformation, we’re talking about this stadium here; I’m elated to see that the T10 will bring a great economic boost to our region in terms of sports tourism, in terms of our locals being empowered,” Mohan stated.
Mohan emphasised that hosting the tournament aligns with the broader economic expansion sweeping through Region Two, where increased investment and commercial stability have spurred local business activity.
“Over the years, we can see a significant boost in the number of businesses coming to our region, and it’s alluding to one thing: we talk about stability and the policies, the positive policies under this government,” Mohan noted.
“In this township, you can see multiple hotels; we’re talking about other businesses… more and more investors coming into this beautiful township and, by extension, the region, because the spending power is there.”
Reflecting on the evolution of the Anna Regina venue from a modest community ground into a modern facility capable of hosting major competitions, Mohan highlighted the lasting impact on the regional sports ecosystem.
“This piece of tangible facility would be a major, drastic boost to the sports sector in our region,” he said. “This ground was a community centre, and the transformation that we have seen here is a real transformation. So I know each and every one in this region here will benefit tremendously from this magnificent and beautiful facility in our region.”
The Essequibo leg represents the third zonal stop of the competition following completed legs in Berbice and East Bank/West Demerara.
Sixteen teams loaded with talent will clash across four venues—Pomona Ground, Affiance Community Ground, Hampton Court Ground, and Anna Regina National Stadium—on Saturday, August 22, before the action shifts exclusively to Anna Regina on Sunday, August 23 for the semi-finals, an exhibition tie between Trophy Stall Jaguars and Trophy Stall Eagles, and the zonal final under lights at 20:00h.
At stake for the Essequibo champions is a berth in the National Finals on October 11 at Anna Regina.
Alongside a top cash prize of $500,000 sponsored by Shawn’s Mini Mart. Jaigobin Hotel is funding the $200,000 runner-up payout and $50,000 for each losing semi-finalist, while Scoop Ride Inc. will distribute $25,000 to each losing quarter-finalist.
Admission is free to all grounds across both days, with full community entertainment planned throughout the weekend.
Following this leg, the tournament will observe a scheduled hiatus for the closing stages of the Caribbean Premier League before resuming on September 26 for the Georgetown/East Coast Demerara Zone.
