Mahdia accident: WCD man charged over death of Finance Ministry employee

Three months after Pritipaul Jaigobin, an Economic and Financial Analyst at the Finance Ministry, was killed in an accident at Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), a 43-year-old man was on Wednesday charged with causing his death.
Nand Singh, of West Coast Demerara (WCD), was brought before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on April 4, he drove a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Jaigobin.

Singh was granted $200,000 bail and he will return to court on August 13.
Police said that the accident occurred at around 15:00h.
It was reported that Jaigobin died after the black Toyota Tundra he and other Ministry officials were travelling in toppled several times. Singh, who was the driver of the vehicle, reportedly lost control of it.
The occupants of the vehicle received injuries and were rushed to the Mabura Health Centre. Jaigobin was among those transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex for treatment. He was pronounced dead on arrival. Jaigobin was also the Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board. (G1)
