Brian Luke, a 47-year-old Albion High Reef, Corentyne man appeared before the Magistrate R. Singh at the Albion Magistrate Court to answer the charge of rape.
Luke was arrested on August 16 offence of rape under Section 3(3) of the Sexual Offences Act Chapter 8:03. He was not required to plea to the charge and remanded to Prison until September 14.
He is accused of raping a 64-year-old woman at her Region Six, East Berbice-Corentyne home on the day in question. Police stated that the senior citizen woman was at home when Luke entered, raped her and carted off with $200,000 in cash.
After leaving the premises, the elderly woman reportedly raised an alarm and neighbours went to her assistance.
The matter was reported to the Police and based on information gathered, Luke was arrested at his home where a portion of the cash was recovered.
