Man freed of ecstasy possession charge

A 26-year-old Alberttown, Georgetown businessman, who was on trial for reportedly having ecstasy in his possession was on Friday freed by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly due to insufficient evidence.

Darrel John

Darrel John was on trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after he was accused of selling the date rape drug to an underage boy and being in possession of drugs.
Particulars of the first charge stated that John, between December 1, 2017, and January 31, 2018, at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, sold ecstasy to an underage child.
It is also alleged that on February 12, 2018, at Lot 141 Alberttown, Georgetown, he had two grams of ecstasy in his possession.
Magistrate Daly dismissed the possession charge against John due to insufficient evidence. However, the charge against John for selling narcotics to a minor is still ongoing.
John was represented by Attorney-at-Law George Thomas and the State was represented by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Narissa Leander.
According to reports, the child was held with the drug and when the matter was reported, a raid was conducted at John’s home and ecstasy was found in his bedroom.
