Marian’s Academy, President’s College through to U-19 semis

National Schools Basketball Festival

Marian’s Academy female team brushed aside the St Rose’s High girls 18 to 7 points when action continued in the National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Sunday.
Jada Mohan was the top performer for Marian’s Academy with 13 points and 7 steals while Renuka Ramcharran added 2 points, 6 rebounds. Kellian Sauers assisted with 2 points, 5 rebounds.

Jared Sears of Plaisance goes for a basket

Jamaica Blair fought hard for St Roses with matching figures of 4 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
In the males U-19 action Plaisance Secondary overwhelmed Tutorial High School 63 to 32.
Andrew Johnson top scored with 19 points while Nigel Bowen recorded 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals. Reuben Reid supported with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Denzel Logan had 15 points and Zion Gray 6 points and 10 rebounds for Tutorial.
The Government Technical Institute was too strong for the young Adult Education side, winning 62 to 39.
Shamar Huntly scored 14 points and 7 rebounds, Nickosie Allicock 14 points, 8 rebounds, and Richard Telford 10 points and 14 rebounds for the victorious GTI side.
Terrence Ardain had 15 points, 4 rebounds while Shamar Keiler had 10 points and 9 rebounds for Adult Education.
Marian’s Academy sealed a place in the U19 semi-finals, with a 59 to 21 points victory over Bishops’ High School.
Timothy Thompson was dominant as he scored 25 points and had 24 rebounds, Jahleel Young chipped in with 14 points, 19 rebounds while Jether Harris and Josiah Daniels added 7 points each for Marian’s Academy.
Joshua Smith netted 7 points and Andre Somrah’s 6 points and 5 rebounds for the Bishops’ team.
In the final quarter-final game of the night, President’s College and St. Rose’s High went down to the wire, with the former edging 55 to 53.
Anthon Fileen had a game- high 29 points and 5 steals while Akeem Crandon added 10 points, 8 rebounds and Kennon Roberts 12 rebounds for the victorious PC side.
Anthony Yansen scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals while Kwesi Roberts had 10 points and 5 rebounds for St Roses.
The Under 19 Semi-finals will see PC taking on Plaisance from 5pm and GTI playing Marian’s Academy from 6pm on Thursday June 29, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Georgetown/ East Coast Regional FINALS are set for Friday, June 30th, from 4:30pm.
