Mayor’s Cup Final shifted to Tucville Ground

After being slated for the Georgetown Football Club’s Ground, then moving to the Den Amstel ground, West Bank Demerara the finale of the annual Mayor’s Cup Football Championship will now be played at the Tucville ground on Sunday.

According to co-ordinator of the event, Lennox Arthur, the Den Amstel ground was initially booked but it was later understood that games in the Stag League were also booked on the same date forcing the Mayor’s Cup final showdown to the Tucville Ground.

In addition to the new venue, there will be two 7-a-side inter-ward exhibition games with Grove taking on Kingston at 17:00h and North East La Penitence battling Golden Grove.

The exhibition games are sponsored by Sparta family and the winner will receive $50,000 cash and the Sparta Family Trophy.

On their way to the final, Police defeated Linden’s Federal Winners Connection 3-1 while Western Tigers made light work of Ann’s Grove with a 4-1 drubbing at the Victoria Ground.

The winner of the final between Police and Western Tigers will cart off the Aruwai Resort first prize of $700,000. While the losing team will not walk away empty handed, but rather with the Ansa McAl trophy and $300,000.

In the other match of the night, Ann’s Grove will take on Federal Winners Connection for third place with the winner pocketing $200,000 and the John Fernandes trophy while the loser will collect $100,000 and the Ministry of State trophy.

Ricks and Sari has also donated hampers which will go to the winning team, while tournament’s top goal scorer will get a three piece suite compliments of AH&L Kissoon Furniture Store.

The leading goal scorer to date is Dwayne McClennon with 6, Randolph Wagner has 4 and Dellon Kelly 3, all representing Western Tigers. Quincy Holder of Police also has 3 goals and is in the running to claim the prize for the tournament’s leading goal scorer as well.
