The body of a West Berbice mechanic who went missing on Tuesday during a family outing to catch crabs was on Wednesday fished out of the Atlantic Ocean.
Dead is Heron Anthony Sears, 49, of Number 29 Village, WCB. He used to work at the Aroaima Mining Company as a mechanic.
Reports are that on Tuesday Sears disappeared in a canal leading to the ocean in the presence of his wife. On Wednesday at about 09:00h, his body was discovered by passers-by lying on the mud flat as the tide was receding.

to the foreshore on an outing to catch crabs.
According to Alicia Sears, they entered the foreshore by using the access dam at Trafalgar, and went as far as Lovely Lass village. By the time they got back to Trafalgar, they did not have as many crabs as they needed.
The sluice attendant advised them that they had gone the wrong was in search of crabs, and needed to go in the other direction. Her husband was determined to go, but after explaining that she did not feel like walking that far, her husband said he was going alone, and walked across to the canal to wash his feet, which had a lot of mud.
Alicia Sears said he slipped into the canal, and when she asked if he was okay, he raised his hands. She then enquired whether he was going to the other side of the canal, and again he raised his hands.
The woman said she rushed to the sluice attendant for help, but by the time they reached where he had been, he had already disappeared beneath the murky water.
At the time, the Trafalgar sluice door was open, and the current taking the water to the ocean was strong.
The attendant closed the sluice, and a search began for the man. The body was found one village away from the Trafalgar sluice where he disappeared.
