Men attempt to steal motorcycle during ‘sale’ inspection

…1 arrested, accomplice escapes

Two men on Monday attempted to steal a motorcycle at Enmore, East Coast Demerara, after meeting the owner under the guise of inspecting the bike for an intended purchase.

Based on information received, the incident occurred at about 14:00h. Reports are the duo had expressed interest in the XR bike via Facebook, to which they arranged a meeting with the seller, Jerome Jacobs, to inspect it.
In the process of doing so, one of the men demanded that Jacobs hand over his keys but upon refusing, the suspect whipped out a firearm. A fight ensued between them, and the suspect discharged several rounds, which injured Jacobs.
An alarm was raised and public-spirited citizens gave chase. This resulted in one of the perpetrators being apprehended. The other made good his escape.
The lone suspect was handed over to Police ranks. He was searched and a .38 revolver and motorcycle keys were retrieved from his possession. Spent shells were also recovered from the scene.
Police are continuing their investigations and are also in search of the runaway suspect. (G12)
