Milo U18 football tournament: CWSS, 8th of May, Santa Rosa among weekend’s winners
A full weekend of Milo Schools’ Under-18 football saw defending champions Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) sending a strong warning to all challengers in this year’s competition; but the likes of Essequibo’s 8th of May Secondary and Region One’s Santa Rosa Secondary showed they are ready to rumble.
On Saturday, at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Carifesta Avenue, Cummings Lodge Secondary edged St Cuthbert’s Mission 2-1 in the first game.
Keyshawn Millington’s opener for Cummings Lodge in the 22nd minute saw a swift reply from St Cuthbert’s Eyon Simon in the 24th. However, Dequan Thom netted the game winner in the 47th.
8th of May Secondary thumped Vryman’s Erven 7-3 in the following game. Doubles from De Angelo Davidson (10th, 15th), Simeon Douglas (20th, 52nd) and Sachel Marks (38th, 50th) along with one from Leon Farrell (60th) accounted for the 8th of May’s 7, while Akeem Hosannah (17th, 57th) and Joshua Dougall (55th) shared the goals for Vryman’s Erven.
Defending champions CWSS mauled West Demerara Secondary 6-0. Kelvin Hintzen (13th, 20th), Kristian Louis (40th, 56th), Amani King (47th) and an own goal were responsible for those goals.
Meanwhile, St Stanislaus College edged Dolphin 2-1. Omarie Nelson opened the scoring for Saints in the 17th minute, while Cadwell Peters found the reply and what would be Dolphin’s consolation goal in the 20th minute. However, LeBron James found the back of the net in the 45th minute, to hand Saints the victory.
On Sunday, Santa Rosa Secondary opened the day with an 8-0 assault on New Amsterdam Secondary. Roy Vonslytman (10th, 50th, 53rd) led with a hat-trick, while Deon Chappelle (15th, 46th) netted a double. Rockwell Harris (17th), Nelon Lucas (70th) and an own goal in the 34th minute accounted for the remaining three goals.
Afterwards, Mackenzie High thumped President’s College 4-1. Jevon Dennis (5th), Joel Siland (31st), Azainneo Benjamin (34th) and Aaron Murray (60th) were the scorers for the Linden outfit. On the other hand, Elton Lewis netted PC’s lone goal in the 49th.
Five goals off the boots of Elijah Sattaur (7th, 12th, 16th, 53rd, 63rd) led the way for an 8-1 win for West Ruimveldt over Vergenoegen Secondary. Adding to Sattaur’s five was Donovan Welcome with a brace in the 34th and 55th minutes, while Jaden Jackson added another to West Ruimveldt’s tally.
Quon Jackman was the lone scorer for Vergenoegen in the 37th.
Also on Sunday, Charity Secondary and New Central High played to a 1-1 draw. Kenneth Gordon found the back of the net first for New Central in the 34th minute, but Keiron Mendonza equalised for Charity in the 58th, resulting in the draw.
The Milo action will continue this weekend at the same venue.
