The minibus driver who was seen in a viral video ignoring a passenger’s request to lower the vulgar music, and who later snatched that passenger’s phone, was on Thursday slapped with four charges.
Twenty-eight-year-old Josh Harry of Back Street, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara has been charged with making loud and continuous noise, misconduct of a driver, failure to carry a conductor, and breach of condition of road service licence.
Harry pleaded not guilty to all charges, and has been placed on bail in the sum of $30,000. He is expected to make his next court appearance on April 19.
The Police have said that Harry would also be charged with damage to property and assault.
The video of the incident shows the female passenger complaining about the loud and vulgar music being played in the minibus. The passenger, who was recording the encounter, requested the bus operator to turn down the music; but, instead, the driver stopped the vehicle, came around to the passenger’s side, and demanded that the woman disembark the vehicle.
However, the passenger refused to do so, and continued recording. This caused the bus driver to slap her cellphone out of her hand.
It is unclear what transpired after that incident, or where it occurred.
