West Indies will face off against Pakistan in the second T20 International at the Providence Stadium today, and Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr is excited that international cricket is once again here in Guyana.
Ramson Jr is particularly optimistic about the fact that the National Stadium is back to where it was and is taking great shape.
“I was very disappointed of how much work needed to be done to get the Stadium up to scratch as we have had to spend quite a bit of money to do it. But the good news is that we are going to be able to have international cricket here for the first time in two years and we are looking forward to it,” Ramson Jr said.
The Minister went on to relate that precautionary measures will be set in place for the matches. He noted that it has been fairly set out as meetings with the necessary stakeholders were held. He also stated that while Guyana was not unique in getting spectators involved back in viewing sports, the nation must show that it could set the trend with the right vaccination programmes and the right measures and that the citizens were inclined to participate in the uptake of the vaccines.
In closing, Ramson Jr noted that this process makes the country and the Government more willing and liberal with the intention to reopen the country more safely.
