As the Government intensifies its campaign to remove derelicts and other encumbrances from roadways countrywide, the Public Works Ministry on Thursday called on owners of several stationary vehicles and coconut stalls along the Old Railway Line in Kitty, Georgetown, to immediately remove them.
The Ministry continues to remind the public that road shoulders are not designated storage spaces and must remain clear for the safety of all road users.
“As standard procedure, failure to remove these vehicles will see the Ministry stepping in to have them removed. Please note, the property of all owners who continue to relocate from one location to another and/or continue to disregard the removal notices will be seized,” the Ministry added.
Furthermore, the Ministry stated it is not interested in permanently withholding property and, as such, advised that all costs associated with the removal, once done by the Ministry, will be the sole responsibility of the defaulting owner.
Nevertheless, to reclaim any seized property, owners are required to visit the Ministry to settle the outstanding removal costs before the items can be uplifted.
It was recently reported that some 50 persons have already been hauled before the courts as the Ministry aggressively stepped up its campaign.
The Ministry encouraged Neighbourhood Democratic Councils to take the necessary actions to remove derelict vehicles and other encumbrances.
