Days after several Brazilian nationals were deported after being charged with illegal entry and mining, the court has again ordered the deportation of five others for similar incidents.
Samuel Dionisa Soares, 24; Yosbani Suarez Areces, 49, a Cuban national; Rafael Da Conceicao Viera, 30; and Deusimar Feitosa Dos Santos, 53, all of Boa Vista, Brazil, along with Berto Dasena, a labourer from Marau, Brazil, were arrested and charged with the offence of illegal entry.
They made a virtual appearance before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the charge was read to them. They pleaded guilty and were given the options of a $30,000 fine or six weeks’ imprisonment.
In addition, they were ordered to depart Guyana within 24 hours.
Only last week, it was reported that the swift actions of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) had led to the arrest of five Brazilian nationals for illegal entry and illegal mining.

Antonio Isal Das Soura, Michael De Souza Martin, Clinton Martins Fernandes, and Matheus Sere Martins all pleaded guilty and were ordered to depart Guyana within 24 hours.
The Natural Resources Ministry reiterates that this action forms part of its ongoing efforts to eradicate illegal mining and to ensure that all operators comply with the country’s laws and regulations.
A release from the Ministry stated that efforts to stamp out illegal mining remain critical to protecting Guyana’s environment, upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding the nation’s natural resources for future generations.
“The Ministry is also reminding all stakeholders that its enforcement campaign continues across all districts, and those found in breach of the law will face the full extent of the legal system.”
